The Antiquity

Note Worthy Moments

Katie: My senior year of high school I was placed in Honor Art for ceramics. It was pretty much the only art elective I hadn't taken. I ended up painting over a used & left-behind canvas with black and Cadmium red oil.  I replicated the portrait dozens of times before having the courage to brush it onto a black canvas. I ended up taking home a 1st Place award of Fairfield County School District Art Show. That’s when I knew I was an artist.

Crown of Thorns. A self portrait that won a 1st place Photography Award at the Salve Regina BOSS Showcase. It was the keystone to a serious that is still growing to this day. It was my first interpretation of sculpting a photograph.

Building the Cross: This may be ranked as the project that I am most proud of. It was built from a place of suffering and a struggle with faith. I felt like I was bearing my own cross in my own adversities and, in this creation, I was able to defined my true beliefs. The cross turned out to be invisible (as he is) and yet – when you approach it, you find the reflection of yourself. When the sun shined its specular reflection illuminated and a dark shadow fell behind it. The light, the dark, one’s self, and a higher power.

Dance With Me: What started as a total joke and a desire to have more grace than my birth given white girl moves, took a lesson. I fell in love and I’d say it saved my life. The physical practice of being in my own skin pushed me out of my comfort zone and it healed my soul. I transform from a 20-something who had never had a dance lesson in her life to entering into competing in 8 different styles of dance.

PhatBurn: The first job I got outside the restaurant business. I found a company shared the same values that I have. I get to help people. I am challenged every day and constantly learning how to run a start up business. I also got to shred 25 pounds & 13% body fat in the process.

Shatterproof: I lost a very dear friend to the epidemic that is addiction. A group of close friends organize an event in his honor called The Showdown at the Sound. It's a colorful boat race where teams of four attempt to paddle there way to a buoy and back. This past year the For Michael event raised over $200,000 dollars. The money donated is dedicated to transforming America's addiction treatment system and ensure that any person with a substance use disorder can have access to treatment. I have the honor of documenting this day every year.
